Make it Sew!

This blog is going to be not so much a how-to, but rather a how-did!

Today we had lots of people out in the front yard of the museum house, eager to learn and teach others how to hand sew a quilt. We also had out the treadle sewing machine for all to have a try at using. The quilt top they started working on is a special project started by a volunteer, Jane. Jane had visitors sew together a quilt block, using the treadle sewing machine, on Heritage day. She then pieced together these blocks into a quilt top that we are now putting together with batting (filling) and backing (the back panel of the quilt, often one piece of fabric). All the fabric used so far has been recycled from donated fabric, so it’s be a very ecological project!

Once completed, the quilt(s) will be raffled off at our upcoming fall event “200 Harvest Festival” in celebration of the O’Hara family settling in Canada 200 years ago.

Quilting is certainly not a one day job, so we will have people back out on July 30th (which is also our kite day!) to keep working on the project. If you want to try your hand at some stitching come join us from 11-3, we hope to see you there!
