Welcome!

We are quite excited to be bringing back the summer student blog for another year here at O’Hara! Before we get ahead of ourselves, some introductions are in order;

We are Peter and Mia, this year’s summer students. Every year the homestead hires on two students to establish a regular presence on the grounds. Our job has many responsibilities, but our primary duty is to open the buildings during our regular hours and provide tours to visitors! Open Wednesday-Sunday 10:00am-4:00pm until the end of August, there’s lots of time to visit!

This blog is one of the things we have created in order to bring life to the homestead during the summer. Our hope is that our blog will inspire visitors to learn more about what life was like 200 years ago in a way that is fun and interactive.

Our theme for this year is, “Homestead How-Tos” where we hope to provide some insight into the everyday lives of the O’Hara family. Alongside some of our posts we will be hosting workshops and demonstrations that visitors can participate in, so keep your eye out! We have decided to stick with a similar format from previous years and have a theme for each day of the week;

  • Wednesday: Livestock and Horses

  • Thursday: Crops and Garden

  • Friday: Food Preparation and Preservation

  • Saturday: Homecraft and Skills

  • Sunday: All for the Kids

We hope you will join us for an exciting summer full of new knowledge and fun activities.
